Department of Education

The Department of Education is in the School of Education and Social Sciences.  The Department offers professional courses in teacher training and has a robust postgraduate program and community outreach presence which are all in line with the the University’s mission and vision. The Department offers the following programmes in Teacher Education at undergraduate level: Bachelor of Education Arts, Bachelor of Education Science, Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood and Primary Education, Bachelor of Arts with Education and Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education. At the postgraduate level, the Department offers Master of Education in Educational Administration; Early Childhood and Primary Education; and Educational Psychology. At the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) level, programmes include: Educational Administration; Early Childhood and Primary Education; and Educational Psychology. Training in all these programmes seek to produce high level manpower equipped with appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant for the job market and transformation of society at local, national, regional and international levels.

 To produce an all rounded student, character development, as an important aspect of training is given prominence. Additionally, students are provided opportunity to realize their talents.

Vision

The vision of the Department is to train high level manpower equipped with appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant for the job market and transformation of society.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Department are to:

  1. train high level market relevant and dynamic teachers.

  2. produce competent graduates who are well grounded in theory and practice.

  3. Keep abreast of innovations and inventions in Education through engaging in research, disseminating generated knowledge through publications and attending and participating in conferences.

The Department prides itself with highly qualified faculty who include Professors and PhD holders and who commit to providing the best experiences for our students through interactive lectures, seminars, tutorials and practicals including teaching practice.
